Department Publications - Alex Irvine’s ENG 406 Writing Seminar
In the Spring 2008 semester at the University of Maine, Professor Alex Irvine held an advanced creative writing seminar. Based off of Alex’s idea, we decided to create a website with both text and audio versions of our “flash” stories.
A flash is a story written in under five hundred (500) words. You have to have a beginning, middle, and end just like any other story. It is a good way to get some writing done.
Without further ado, here are our flash stories from this past semester (in no particular order):
- Andrew Maxcy – Neck Romantic (PDF) (Audio)
- Jesse Priest – Asymmetry (Audio)
- Isaac Forbes – Untitled (Audio)
- Kara Cox – To Leap (PDF) (Audio)
- Mariah Cunningham – Go (PDF) (Audio)
- Sarah Doucette – Untitled (PDF) (Audio)
- Ryan Woodward – Untitled (PDF) (Audio)
- Amanda Johnston – The Reluctance to Sleep (PDF) (Audio)
- Rachel Holden – Saturday Night (PDF) (Audio)
- Alyssa Franzosa – Saving the World From Johnnies (PDF) (Audio)
- Patrick Stanton – Untitled (PDF) (Audio)
- Paul Goodman – Untitled (PDF) (Audio)
- Elizabeth Burleson – Walk the Line (PDF) (Audio)
- Tim Lounder – We Are The Last To Die For Our Mistakes (PDF)
- Ben Goodridge – The Man (PDF)
- Brian Chick – Brain Dead (Audio)
- Eric Carlsen – Untitled (PDF)
- Rick Gower – Untitled (PDF)
Many thanks go out to Professor Alex Irvine for his work this semester; to Paul Goodman, for being so gracious to help the class with Audacity and recording our stories; to Tim Lounder for putting together this website; and to everyone in the writing seminar for participating in this experiment.
