Are “digital natives” as distracted as we’ve been led to believe?
The idea of the “distracted digital native” is a widespread one, but what if there is more to this distraction than meets the eye? In this presentation, Dr. Pigg will explore the ongoing work that writers do to shape their attention as they work with mobile technologies. Seeing attention as a “lived social process,” Dr. Pigg will draw on her own studies of situated action to “illustrate hidden social, material, and spatial burdens that accompany the “freedoms” of mobile literacies” while also identifying the “inventive practices students are developing to act in the world.”
